This experience provided me with the opportunity to become the authority figure so that the conflict could be resolved. I learned that although it is important to require students to resolve conflicts individually, occasionally the teacher must step in to ensure that the resolution is fair to all. The experience is extremely important because as an educator, I will be responsible for resolving conflicts almost everyday. Through this practice, I am able to gain the insight into what works or what does not work.
There are various manners in which I can use this experience in my future practices. Now that I have single-handedly resolved a conflict, I will be better prepared to do so in the future. Additionally, since I was able to listen in on the conflict prior to getting involved, I have the perspective of each student, which I have realized is crucial in resolving a conflict. In the future, I would like to have talked D.G. and question why she did not want J.G. working with her. If this can be revealed, then future conflicts will not take place. This will influence my future practice as a teacher because I will be inquiry further into what is causing the conflict.
