Two out of the three students seemed to better comprehend the lesson overall. However, the third student still seemed to struggle. If I were to reteach this lesson to the same group of student, I would like to have better connected with this third student. During the lesson, I feel as though he was slightly uncomfortable, and if I could have better related to the student, the comfort level could have increased. One of the students is usually very introverted and quite and she seemed to open up during the lesson. I saw her smile a couple times for the first time! This was probably one of the best parts of the lesson (seeing her understand, and feel more confident).
I think that two out of the three students learned what was intended. At the end of the day, the students must answer a final question on an “exit slip”. This provides me (and my CTs) with the opportunity to see that the students understood the lesson and if they learned what was intended. The activity of working out each problem together was effective because it allowed the students to see where they made their mistakes, and how to improve. The instructional materials were a simple paper, pencil, and worksheet. I feel as though these materials were very effective because it allowed the students to better relate to the assignment. By this I mean that students usually use pencil and paper, and through using these materials during my lesson it gave them the opportunity to see that as an adult, I still use pencil and paper.
After reflecting and analyzing the lesson, I plan to become better aquatinted with all of the students, so that they will feel more comfortable during future lessons. The next lesson that I plan to teach the students will more then likely be a read-aloud followed by some vocabulary activities. The next math lesson that they will be learning is using the number line to divide (but I only come once a week, so I will not have the opportunity to teach this lesson).
